おきに

It is used to express an interval of time or space. This expression should be used with nouns.

1) Nouns : Noun + きに

 68のバスは5ふんおきに来ます。
The bus number 68 comes every 5 minutes.

 3日みっかおきにこのくすりんでください。

Please take this medicine every 4th days.

Care must be taken not to confuse "ごとに" and "おきに."

For days, weeks, months, and years, the use of "ごとに" and "おきに" yields different meanings.

"ごとに" expresses the complete time interval between two repeated events, A and B.

"おきに" expresses the time interval that elapses from the moment A ends until B begins. In other words, "おきに" expresses the time one allows to pass before repeating an action.

Example: I go to the library every two days.

2日ごとに、図書館に行く。

1日おきに、図書館に行く。(literally: I leave a day's interval before returning to the library)

However, when these expressions are used with units like seconds, minutes, hours, and distances, they can be used interchangeably to express a regular or scheduled frequency.

Example: The train comes every two minutes in Tokyo.

=東京とうきょうでは、電車でんしゃが2おきにくる。
=東京とうきょうでは、電車でんしゃが2ごとにくる。
