The transitive verb is a verb whose action is performed by an agent and indicated by the particle を. 

The intransitive verb is a verb whose action occurs without an agent and indicated by the particles が or は. 

The kanji used in the transitive and intransitive version is usually the same. 
ドアを ける。Open the door.
ドアが く。The door opens. 

 Some verbs have only one intransitive or intransitive form. 
えきはしる。Running to school.

つける turn on
つく light up
す erase, turn off
える disappear, fade away

ける extract oneself, escape

鈴木すずきさんが電気でんきをつけた。
Mr Suzuki turned on the light.
部屋へや電気でんきがついた。
The lights in the room were switched on.
パソコンをす。
I turn off the computer.
パソコンがえる。
The computer is switched off.
山田やまださんがドアをけた。
Mr. Yamada opened the door.
かぜでドアがいた。
The door opened with the wind.
