# JLPT N3 - Tendency and action in progress (がち,つつ)

### Express tendency with がち

This expression has a negative connotation.   
   
1) Verbs: conjugate the verb in the masu form (ます形), then remove the "masu" part and add がち.  
   
Verb in masu (ます形): Sterm+ がち

 

失敗しっぱいする 

→失敗しっぱいします 

→失敗しっぱいしがち 

 

2) Nouns : noun + がち 

病気びょうき 

→病気びょうきがち

     寒さむさで具合ぐあいが悪わるくなりがちだ。

I tend to get sick when it's cold.

Conjugate the verbs below to the がち form.

曇くもる

Answer →

曇くもりがち

Translation →

The weather tends to turn bad.

寝坊ねぼうする

Answer →

寝坊ねぼうしがち

Translation →

tend to oversleep.

遅おくれる

Answer →

遅おくれがち

Traduction →

　be often late for

### Express tendency and action in progress with つつある 

Verbs in masu (ます形) : Sterm + つつある 

よくなる 

→よくなります 

→よくなりつつある 

 

変かわりつつある 

Start to change

 

なくなりつつある 

be disappearing

Translation →

The value of the yen is getting weaker.
